I hate to burst your bubble, but there are a lot of career paths that are too unrealistic to even bother pursuing. Here are only four of them.
If you want to start a blog to express yourself, go for it. However, you will never make a living blogging, no matter how hard you work at it. Some people manage to make a living blogging, but most people will never be able to. There are many reasons for this, but the main reason you’ll never make a living blogging is because there are far too many blogs out there to compete with. In fact, most bloggers don’t even make enough money to pay for web hosting. So, if you have a blog, get rid of the ad banners and affiliate links, and don’t bother trying to sell your products or services. You will never make a living from your blog. If you think that you can, then you need a reality check.
Most businesses fail within the first year. That one reason should be enough to discourage you from starting your own business. You could have an original idea for a business, and you could have a solid business plan, but that doesn’t mean it will be successful. For that reason, it’s not worth the risk of spending tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars starting your own business.
Unless you live in Los Angeles or New York, you really need to give up on your dream of becoming an actor. For one thing, there are very few acting opportunities out there. Even if you’re living in L.A, you’ll spend all of your time auditioning for several acting gigs, just to get turned down. You could be auditioning for months, or even years before you land a role as an extra for a infomercial.
Remember when your parents told you that music is an unrealistic career? I’m sorry, but they were right. Most bands will never get a record deal. If your band is good, you may get a few low-paying gigs. So, you’re going to spend all of your time writing and rehearsing music, just to get a few low-paying gigs? Why would you do that, when you could spend your time doing something more productive with your life?
The cold hard truth.
The truth is, it doesn’t matter what you want to do in life, it will require a lot of time and effort. Also, you only truly fail if you give up. You can make plenty of mistakes, and shit happens. But if you’re passionate enough in your career, you will find a way to make it work.
