Three men operating under the name “Who Cares?” have presented the City of St. John’s with a list of demands to hold a parade celebrating “the diverse history, culture, and contributions of people who took no pride of their gender identity and sexual orientation.” “The LGBTQIA community gets an entire month dedicated to them,” reads a quote from the group’s president Richard Big. “For the rest of the year, every day is Cis Gender Straight Pride Day. The people who want this no pride parade are gay, straight, transgender, cisgender, etc. We are proud to say that we have no pride in our gender identity nor sexual orientation.”

The proposed parade immediately sparked outrage on social media, especially within the LGBTQIA community. “People within the LGBTQIA community live in constant fear every day,” said Sarah River-Song. “Every time I leave my house, I fear that people are hiding in the bushes, ready to kill me or my wife. Pride Parades are needed to deliver a message that we will not live in fear. If you can’t accept people because they’re gay, trans, or non-binary, too bad. Come to think about it, maybe we need a Muslim Pride Parade as well.” Sarah wants to make July, Muslim Pride Month. Steve Moody is a cisgender straight white male. “I’m all for a no pride parade,” Steve said. “I’m not ashamed of the way I was born, but I’m not proud of it either. In an ideal world, we would just accept each other for who we are. It’s too bad that’s not the world we live in.”
