Scarlett Johansson was supposed to play a transgender man in the movie, Rub and Tug. Due to pressure from social justice warriors, Johansson later turned down the role.

Social justice warriors and many people within the LGBT+ community demand that only LGBT+ actors should play LGBT+ characters. It would be nice to have more LGBT+ actors play LGBT characters. However, an actor’s job is to pretend to be somebody else. For example, a cisgender woman playing the role of a transgender man who happens to be a mob boss. Another example is a gay actor playing a straight character.

Speaking of which, nobody has a problem with gay actors playing straight characters, but some people have a problem with straight actors playing gay characters. Isn’t that a bit hypocritical?

On the other hand, it doesn’t make sense for a white actor to play a black character and vice versa. That is, if the character’s race is apart of the story.
